The MSU Executive Council met at 11 a.m. at 611 Allen Hall with Dr. J. Charles Lee, interim president, presiding. Others present were Dr. George Verrall, Dr. Brad Carter, Dr. Vance Watson, Dennis Prescott, Dr. Dan Embree, Dr. Jimmy Abraham, Sebron Harrison, Cedric Henson, Dr. Robert Altenkirch, Gaddis Hunt, Daniel Bryant, Larry Templeton, Dr. Melvin Ray, Charles Guest, Joe Farris, Julie Fulgham, and Paul Jernigan.

Dr. Verrall recommended that laboratories and offices in College of Engineering buildings be named for former faculty and administrators in keeping with the recommendation of the dean and the Naming of Facilities Committee. The council approved naming the aerospace engineering department office in honor of Charlie Cliett; naming the electrical and computer engineering department office in honor of Billie Ball; naming the High Voltage Laboratory for Paul Jacob; naming Simrall engineering building auditorium for Chester McKee; naming the Carpenter Hal automation and dynamics laboratory for A. G. Holmes; and naming Carpenter 301 for C. T. Carley.

Dr. Verrall recommended approval for installation by Cellular South, at MSU's request, of small antennas on the roofs of Lee Hall, Allen Hall, and Colvard Union to improve cell phone coverage within the buildings. The antennas will not be visible from the ground. The council recommended approval.

Mr. Bryant reported that the task force studying changes in the structure of the Executive Council would present its report to the president during the coming week.

Mr. Harrison noted that Parker Wiseman was elected Student Association president for 2002-2003, and would be attending future council meetings.

Dr. Lee reported on recent legislative action on the FY 2003 budget and briefly discussed issues being considered by the Board of Trustees.
