Carpenter Jr., who served as the keynote speaker to an overflow crowd at Mississippi State University during the 23rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Unity Breakfast on Jan. 16. More than 1,000 community members gathered at The Mill at MSU to celebrate Kingâs legacy and hear a challenging message from the 1980 Starkville High School graduate who went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps and as a member of the Presidential Honor Guard under former President Ronald Reagan. Carpenter also has extensive law enforcement experience with the Starkville Police Department and Oktibbeha County Sheriffâs Department
